Family Style... Indian Head is a family style campground located outside of Bloomsburg, on the banks of the Susquehanna River, at the Southern edge of Northeastern Pennsylvania in Columbia County. We are about mid-way between Harrisburg and Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton, and about 3 miles from Interstate-80, Exit #232.
Early Roots... Indian Head was once part of a 210 acre plot of ground, the ownership of which can be traced back to the latter part of the 1700's. Portions of the land were sold to later become the town of Rupert. The land along the river bank was once a prosperous vegetable farm, with corn still being grown on a portion of it today.
Native American Heritage... The history of the land is inexorably linked to the Native Americans that once lived here over a period of many centuries. Indian Head Campground gets its unique name from a well known local landmark, a natural rock formation along Route #42 that bears an uncanny resemblance to one of the original inhabitants of this land. There are many reminders of the Native Americansoccasionally found at the campground, as a testament to their heritage and their skill in utilizing the gifts of nature to survive a sometimes harsh environment.
Indian Head Campground is named after a local landmark. This natural rock formation stands overlooking the Susquehanna River and the town of Catawissa.

Location... Located on approximately 50 acres at the confluence of Fishing Creek, and the Susquehanna River, Indian Head Campground offers grass covered, tree shaded sites for both RV's and tents, or more open sites if you prefer no trees. Tent sites are normally situated under trees, on grass, and have a table and fire ring. Water is close by, and our most popular tenting area is across from the restroom and shower building. The small pavilion is located there for tenters to use. There are more isolated tent sites near our boat ramp, and others may be found at various places around the campground. A very nice large, somewhat isolated and spacious area for group tent camping is available upon request.
Camping Sites... Our RV sites have a table and fire ring, 30 amp electric hookup, along with water. The RV unit will park on a gravel base, and is surrounded with grass and trees. We have a more open area that is popular with camping clubs. It has 30 amp electric and water, but no individual table or fire ring. A covered large pavilion is conveniently close by with a fireplace, tables, electric lights, and water for clubs to gather for meetings and meals.
The River... Our concrete boat launch at the mouth of Fishing Creek, places your boat just a lures throw from the Susquehanna River, an American treasure that originates in Cooperstown, New York, and empties into the Chesapeake Bay at Havre de Grace, Maryland. An ambitious plan is underway to map the river for boat or canoe trips with access points, boat launches, camping, historic points, hazards, waypoints, and other things of interest for a boating day trip, or more ambitious trips that you may wish to plan. Maps and guides will soon be available for purchase. Also underway is a project to utilize abandoned railroad lines, along with some private property, and create bicycling and hiking paths, allowing easy access from the campground onto the path.
Campground Store... We have a well stocked camp store that contains souvenirs, RV supplies, some limited food items that you may have forgotten, and some of the best soft ice cream around. We sell firewood for your campfires, and we have a public phone available with a modem connection so you can retrieve your e-mail.
Directions... Easy Off, Easy On
From Interstate-80, take the Buckhorn Exit #232. Follow Route #42 South about 3 miles to the campground. Directional signs are found at major turns. You will be headed towards Catawissa on Route #42 South, and upon entering the town of Rupert, there will be a fire station on your right. Turn left a few hundred feed past the station, cross over the railroad tracks, and follow the road around to the right. We are located on the left at the stop sign and our store is the building on the left at the entrance. Stop there for assistance.
Going back to Interstate-80 requires that you turn to the right as you leave the campground, go past the covered bridge and follow the road across the railroad tracks, back to Route #42. Turn right onto Route #42, and follow the signs back to I-80. Coming from Catawissa on Route #42 North, take the first right turn after you enter Rupert. Coming from Danville on Route #11 North, follow the signs for Route #42 South, just before entering Bloomsburg.
Fishing and Other Points of Interest...
There are many varieties of fish in both the Susquehanna River, and Fishing Creek that will challenge your fishing skills, ranging from muskellunge that grow quite large, to smallmouth and largemouth bass, walleye, catfish, suckers, carp, and panfish. Bring your boat or canoe along or try your luck from shore. We sell live bait, and also have some fishing supplies available.

Reservations...
Unless there is a major event going on like the Bloomsburg Fair, or it is a major holiday, we usually have space available if you are just passing through with no advance reservation. If possible, we do recommend that you make a reservation to secure the type of site you prefer, or to secure a favorite site in a favorite area.
A deposit is required to hold your site, and may be made with VISA, Mastercard, checks, cash or money orders. We normally will hold your request for a reservation for one week while waiting for your deposit check to arrive in the mail.
Credit card reservations take effect the same day they are made. 7-day notice for refunds is required when reservations are cancelled.
To make reservations, please contact us.
